Alvaro Recoba set for Penarol move
Former Inter Milan superstar Alvaro Recoba will likely reinforce Uruguayan giants Penarol next season after confessing that it would be a dream come true to play for the club. Recoba believes signing for Penarol could improve his chances of making the Uruguay squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.'I want to go to Penarol to help them become champions, and also to fight for a place in the World Cup,' Recoba told Ultimas Noticias.
The idea of moving to Penarol is a controversial one, because Recoba came to fame with crosstown rivals Nacional, before joining Inter Milan in 1997.
Raul Recoba, the father of the player, doesn´t like the idea of his son moving to Penarol, because according to him it would be highly unethical.
'In life one has to be grateful and Nacional always treated us very well,' he said.
'When we left they treated us in a marvelous manner, despite knowing that I was a Penarol fan. There I became a fan of my friends, because of how they treated us. That´s why I will do everything for Nacional, like I have done up until now.'
Moving to Penarol would be a very risky choice for Recoba, because he will likely receive lots of criticism from the local press and also from the Nacional fans.
