How To Say Thank You To A Professor

People come into your life and some stay for a long time, some only a short time but they impact your life for many years to come.  I had a professor like this.  His name was Lou.  By the time I met Lou he had been a teacher, administrator, and professor for many years.  He had more understanding of the pendulum of education than anyone I know.  He had seen it all and dealt with all the challenges and changes with such gracefulness and knowledge.  He was an amazing professor. He was an amazing man.

It's funny the things you remember about people.  I remember Lou teaching our Cohort of education students about classroom management.  He told us some stories that will stick with me forever.  It was the real life stuff, like you need to really care about your students, you need good boundaries, and you need to be willing to always grow and change that impacted my life.  I finally graduated and went on to be a teacher.

It had been my dream since I was a little girl. I loved it!  Looking back I wish I would have given Lou a thank you gift. Somehow during college life seems kind of self focused.  It crossed my mind but I never acted upon it. I really wish I would have.

If someone in education makes a difference in your life it is important to let them know.  There is no greater thank you gift than letting them know you appreciate them.  So how does a person do this?   Here are a few ideas'''''..

Thank you gift ideas for your professor

1)      If you had a study group or group of students who share in their care and appreciation for your professor encourage them to come together and make a thank you gift basket.  This is a fantastic idea.  Everyone can contribute something fun or even something that reminds them of their professor and write a little note on it.  They will love this.

2)      Another great way to honor a professor is by writing a letter to the editor of both your school and local newspaper.  Give a copy to your prof and let him know that you wanted other to know what a difference he or she is making in students lives.

3)      Tell them. It's simple. It can be uncomfortable.  But let them know how much you learned and grew from being in their course.

Thank you gifts can be expensive or free but it will only matter if it comes from the true you!
